Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims all over the world await Muharram. It is one of the four most important months, as stated in the Quran. It is revered as the month of remembrance of the death of Husayn ibn Ali. Muharram is one of the most pious and sacred festivals. It symbolizes new beginnings, as it is celebrated as the first month of the Islamic New Year. Muslims from all around the world use this period to reflect on their lives and praise the name of their lord. The month also coincides with the anniversary of the Battle of Karbala. It was an iconic battle in the Islamic community, as prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussain Ibn Ali, was killed in this battle. A lot of Muslims honor his death by fasting.
