The tomb of Sultan Ahmed Shah, called Badshah no Haziro though some people also call it Raja no Haziro, is an impressive building that follows a similar architectural style to the nearby Jama Masjid.
The tomb was constructed in 1446 for Sultan Ahmed Shah. Alongside him are buried his son Muhammad Shah and his grandson Qutb-ud-Din.
The mausoleum is accessible from Manek Chowk and lies adjacent to Jama Masjid and near the queens’ mausoleum called Rani no Haziro. The building has a huge central dome and its walls reflect the crafts skills of Ahmedabad’s artisans. There are porticoes on all sides though only the southern entrance is open. A passage leads to the marble tomb of Sultan Ahmed Shah.
The mosque has four chambers at all four corners with smaller domes. The chamber is lit with delicately carved stone screens (jalis) and flowers and chaddars are still offered here.
