Irish Presbyterian Mission School, popularly known as IP Mission School, is one of the first British buildings in Ahmedabad. The school is one of many institutions in Gujarat managed by the Gujarat Christian Society.
The Irish Presbyterian Mission came to Ahmedabad in 1863. It was led by Dr. Glasgow who had been in India from about 1840. Himmatlal Dhirajram Bhachech, the engineer responsible for the steel work of Ellis Bridge, was commissioned to build the IP Mission School.
The school is largely European in style with Gothic windows. It has some beautiful wooden details.
The red brick architecture stands out from the main roads. With a legacy of more than 150 years and many thousands of students, the marvellous school building is a real living witness to the glorious history of Ahmedabad.
